Thats exactly what I thought, thats why I said I don't know how they got into the province and if they were quarantined correctly. As far as legislation goes, it is really frustrating to try and get ahold of what these guys are up to. Exotic reptiles are not illegal to keep in KZN, but illegal to bring into the province... How does that work? I know when applying for a permit to bring some snakes here, the guy at Ezemvelo (KZn Wildlife) told me that the species has not yet been under risk assessment yet. Yet a town next door, in the same province gives the permits to import the same species one week earlier. When questioned about this, he said that each district has a different criteria for assessment, what BS.
I am really thankful for the guys that take these laws on, and help us reptile keepers to enjoy our hobby without all of the red tape on everything.
I think Lillypod the best thing to do is ask these dealers for advice on certain animals & see what there advice is. If they are wrong help them along the way. Advice is free, unfortunately the animals suffer in the end if these dealers are not giving the proper advice on housing and care. I visit many petshops and help the guys out with advice on the little I know on any species in question. There are some really great petshops where the people are very knowledgable and teach me something new. At the end of it all, we are all still learning everyday.
