Armadillo girdled lizard (Cordylus cataphractus)

Postby Pappster » Mon Oct 15, 2012 8:38 pm

Hi guys.
The Armadillo girdled lizard is simply one of my favourite reptiles. Every time I see a picture of one of these awesome guys I am fascinated all over again, so I thought I would share a picture with all of you.. I also noticed that they are blacklisted for keeping as a pet but not endangered. Can anyone maybe shed some light onto this matter and if one might be able to get a permit for one?
Kind regards Ricus

Hi Pappster!

These lizards are truly amazing and are now classified as Ouroborus cataphractus.

One is allowed to keep these animals if one has the correct permits for them. They now fall under the TOPS regulation.

As you mentioned, they are not Endangered, however are Vulnerable as they usually live in family groups and a few people go and collect them for the illegal pet trade. O. cataphractus is the only lizard of the cordylidae family which is truly a family living lizard and rather common in the right areas.

Kind Regards

Jens

Excuse me Pappster, but that picture belongs to me.

I can't say I'm particularly fond of people distributing my pictures, but what can a guy do...

Hey westley didn't mean to offend you. Really sorry about that but I just wanted to show the users what I am talking about as it helps to add an image (got it of google images). And yours was by far the best one. Hope you understand and again I am sorry but I don't know where else to get images other than the internet as I never saw one myself..

Hey Pappster, no worries.

I was just in a miserable mood when I replied. I guess once you post something on the net it practically belongs to the world.

When looking on Google Images, of the first 20 pictures on the first page, 5 belong to me and none of them credit me.

Next time put your name on the pictures. Usually they dont cut them off and then if yours do show up on google (often from this site) then any others that have been altered can be easily identified. We all run into that problem.
