agama lizard ID

Postby John-C » Sun Apr 07, 2013 6:26 am

I may be getting a group of these N/W African agama soon although the seller
knows little about them, only that they came in from Togo Africa. They might
also occur in nearby countries like Ghana or even from Niger since Togo borders
the east side of Ghana.

This is a picture of an adult male so they are a somewhat small agama.

Any help in IDing this agama would be much appreciated.

My first guess is Agama doriae

Well if the guy imported them legally and they did quarantine etc then surely he should be able to tell you what the permit said they are.

If he smuggled them then why are you supporting him?
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Westly,
Thanks for the great guess on the agama species.
I am pretty sure it is an A doriae subspecies as
some pictures of males I've found on line of the
Agama doriae benueensis are a pretty close match
to the male I showed. They occur in Ghana, Togo
and Nigeria so you were likely spot on!

BushViper, I hear ya.
I'm going to try and find out if there's paperwork
and if they've gone through the proper channels
so as to keep this legal and above board. If all
proves to be ok, I may decide to get a few. I'll try
to contact the seller to get more info/proof on
these before taking the leap.
Thanks for the heads up!
