KZN Midlands lizard ID pls

Postby Richb » Sun Mar 09, 2014 9:52 am

My wife found 3 white eggs a little over 1cm in length in her potato patch about 15cm under the soil. A couple of days later all 3 hatched into beautiful very slender lizards approx 5cm long with very long tail and toes. They have yellow speckles down their sides and legs and fine stripes down their backs. Any ideas what these guys are? The potato patch is right on the edge of a typical midlands indigenous forest. We are in Balgowan - mist belt. I'm not sure how to post a pic of the chaps in this post.

Those will be Delandies Sand Veld Lizards no doubt.

thanks for that Fooble although Sand Veld is something we do not have a lot of up here. Lots of mud (at the moment) but not much sand.. Would you find this species up in our mist-belt environment? Do you have any idea how I can post an image? I have a good pic which may help.

It looks to be a member of the genus Nucras, sandveld lizards.
I think the only species in that area is Nucras lalandii. Delalande's sandveld lizard.
