Hello to everyone on the SAREPTILES forum! I am new to snakes, and would like to know if I should get a Corn Snake, or rather a Ball Pyth? The Pythons are BEAUTIES! Can someone please give me prices on some of the pretty morphs? Currently I have an African Housie. Got all the supplies and "enclosure", if you will. It's about 90x35x40cm, how big will a BP's be? Lookin for either a Cornie or a BP, I thought BP because I would love something big and nice you can play with. Anyone have some BP's available? Looking to buy in January when I will let my Housie go back into the wild :( ! Thanks guys! :o (**BUDGET IS R1000**) , but maybe my dad will help with about R1500 or so, in other words, R2500. Thanks guys!

Hi there, welcome to the forum.

Both make very good pets for beginners, so it really comes down to your preference.
I'm not very with-it regarding ball python morphs and thus not the prices either, but they are pricey. You could probably get a nice male of some kind for R2500.
That enclosure would be fine for a ball python, they don't get all that big, really.

Why are you keeping the house snake ? Is something wrong with it ? If not, you should let it go immediately.

Normal BPs are going for less then a R1000 last I saw, pretty sure I remember normal pairs for around 850. Last season Pastel males were about 1K and some male Spider BPs were going for about 1500. I have corns and balls, they are both awesome to keep :)

Please do not release snake that have been in captivity for so long. You might be sending unusual parasites and diseases into a wild population.

Bushviper, what would you say is the threshold for keeping a snake before releasing it ?

If you have kept it completely isolated then you can talk about 30 days I guess. (Gut feel on that). If you have to put it in a room with other snakes then possibly 24 hours. Even then it should be in a sterile isolated container for that time period.
