Ball Feeding Frustration

Ball Feeding Frustration

Postby ewertb » Fri Feb 05, 2016 9:34 pm

Aaarrgghh!!! Why, oh why would to start fasting when I'm trying to get her up to weight for her 1st breeding season?! :smt021

Sorry, but I just need to vent my frustrations a bit... I'm so looking forward to attempt my 1st ever breeding and now my female goes on hunger strike... She did shed last week so maybe that's it... Will just keep on trying and hope I get her to 1.5kg in time...

What is her weight?

Welcome to ball python keeping lol, I had a male and a female go on hunger strike for months.

Try much smaller meals later at night.

She is at 1005g at present. Been fasting for close to 2 months now. Ate about 3 meals prior and after coming out a fast in November. Had her at 1099g prior to that fast...

About 1kg is when females tend to go off food for a bit, so don't stress too much.

If you up the temperature a degree or two it might help. Best thing I have discovered is to not offer food regularly if they fasting, skip a week or two and then try again.

She finally took a large mouse last night. Will keep her on large mice for 2 or so more feedings and then switch to jumper rats. I'm hoping it's not a once off and that she goes into gorging mode now... Have some catching up to do for breeding season!
