Are they mating?

Postby cynicman » Mon Jun 21, 2010 9:17 am

I recently got given another brown house snake by Rob who happens to live across the road from me. The new housie has settled in nicely, but in the last few days both my wifes original housie and my new one have come out their respective bedding areas and started twisting themselves around each other. They do this for a period of time (not measured as I was busy each time) and then they retire to one bedding area where they rest coiled on top of each other. I have counted this behavior three times already? Are they mating or are they fighting? The behavior is rather peculiar...
Reptiles in my care: 2x Brown House (1x Female, 1x Male - here's hoping), Natal Green Male, 1x Herald, 1x Bearded Dragon Female

Total Pet Count: 26 | Dogs: 4 | Cats: 6 | Rats: 11 | Snakes: 4 | Lizards: 1
And each one is loved!!!
*My wife has lots of patience...

If you love reptiles, you would probably love rodents as well: http://www.sarodents.co.za/

That does not sound like normal mating behavior. The fact that they are not constantly fighting means you need not worry about it.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Those who are afraid to ask are ashamed of learning.
