Brown house snake breeding

Brown house snake breeding

Postby Shaunrp » Mon Jan 05, 2015 8:00 am

I just wanted to know if it is possible for a female brown house snake to lay eggs again about 60 to 70 days after laying a clutch of 8 eggs. My females usually only lay eggs once a year but she is showing signs of wanting to lay eggs again.

Most Definitely, it is called Double Clutching.

I know if hey could breed more than once in a year, just did not know that it could be zoo soon. I think she definitely is because she does not want to coil anymore, just lying stretched out in her tank. Thanks for the reply!!!

In the end you will have to seperate the pair because to be honest there is nothing that your can do with all the babies. Its sad but nobody wants brown house snakes even the colour morfs will be next to impossible to find homes for.

My males and females are separate. I only let them come together once a year to mate. Other than that they have their separate tanks.

They are wonderful snakes, I know they may not have the most sought after colour but they have wonderful personalities and tame very easily

Does anyone know whether a male olive house snake would mate with a female brown house snake??

Nope. They are a completely different species. They might be able to... but I would not encourage breeding hybrid species.

Haha, Shaun you are now treading on dangerous grounds ;)

People tend to frown upon hybrisation and when it comes to indigenous species I would agree with them. Rather try to get a male BHS, even a morph (albino or ghost) if you are looking for something interesting.

Wasn't actually looking to breed them, was just out of interest. Don't think it would make a very nice looking snake in any case. A mixture of brown and olive colour and the olives smaller size, I don't think so
