I'm really in love with the pair I got, the iridescence on them is really beautiful. Can't wait to see how they look fully grown.

I am aware that this topic is a year or so old, but damn, those are stunning! I am still quite a newb in the reptile world and even more so when it comes to genes playing a role in the breeding aspect of snakes. I can't really seem to find housies this green on the internet, besides Rolf Dennison's (Ultimate Exotics) Hypo Green House Snakes. Did you breed these snakes yourself, did you get them from another breeder? Really beautiful snakes! :D

P.S
Do they retain that shade of green in adulthood? (not sure if male or young female)

These are from Rolf and they tend to lighten up quite a bit as they get older.

Thanks for the reply and pics, helps a lot. Slight pity that they lose their green intensity (I'm guessing that these are Zambian Green House Snakes, and not the hypos?) but still looking good :) truly an under appreciated species

yes they are the zambian greens, not hypos. Housies are definitely one of the most under appreciated snakes out there.

Ian, do you know if anyone is working with the striped Namaqualand house snakes that are near-identical to the lineatus?

Those are beautiful Ian, I have a few as well and they get better looking with every shed.

Westley do you have a picture of a Striped Namaqualand house snake by any chance? Just would be interesting to see what they look like.

Sorry to hijack the topic a bit Ian, but yes, I do GCol.

The following two snakes were found on the same road on the same night. The striped ones are much rarer than the typical mentalis.

Here is the typical mentalis

And here is the striped capensis. Theyre all striped from head to tail.

wow that is cool. I have a group of typical CB mentalis but have never seen ones like that striped one. It is very much like a lineatus.

I am also going top apologize for hijacking, but is mentalis now a separate species or is the term just been coined for a different color phase?
