White Lip wont eat

White Lip wont eat

Postby krah » Sun Mar 10, 2013 11:38 am

Hi all

I have a male White Lip(app.2 years old) and about 4 weeks ago he suddenly stopped eating? The temp and humidity in the tank are the same, and hes still active but when I introduce food he shows no response. Any suggestions as to what I can do? And how long can he not eat for before it becomes a health concern?

Regards
Kalum

Male vipers can be erratic and fussy eaters. Are you tease feeding the snake? Some vipers need a little coaxing. Check your temps too, min 28deg and feed early evenings.

What substrate are you using?

As long as the snake looks healthy and maintains a consistent weight it should be fine.

Maybe I've just been lucky up until now lol. Nope, I've never had to tease feed him, I got him when he was about a year old, I usually just chuck in the mouse and he takes it. I'm currently using jungle mulch(by reptile resort) , but I'll wait a few days and then try feeding in the evening. Thanks for the suggestion Serpent. I havent noticed any weight loss yet, so hopefully he is just being fussy at the moment.

Dont worry to much if the snake doesnt eat. Males tend to go off eating for a while before and even during winter. Ive had a male be off food for up to 4months.
So dont worry and dont force feed or stress out the snake. He will eat when he is hungry.
Dont bite, strike!!!!

Dont keep it real, keep it EXOTIC!!!

So it's about 7 months later and he has decided to eat again! :)

Wow he really took his time.

Agreed! I was starting to get concerned, but he hadnt lost any weight and still looked healthy, so I left him to do his thing. Is 7 months extreme, or can I consider it a long, but not abnormal, period of time?
