Cape Cobra

Cape Cobra

Postby Wallas » Mon Jan 27, 2014 10:00 am

Hey all,

I wanted to get info on a tub size for a juvenile Cape Cobra, I did a google search and they say it is 70 liters, and when it is big 180 liters,

Will that be correct?

Regards

The surface area of the floor is what is important. These are not fish.

At the local zoo I am pretty friendly with the staff [they have a few snakes from me] and when they took me behind the scenes they had there cape and Egyptian cobras in 4 by six by two foot enclosures. Sorry don't know how to convert that to the metric system.

For the size it is - anything from 50cm x 30cm will be fine and then you can increase as you go along. One of my favourite snakes the capies!! Just watch the bite

Thanks, I would just like to know what will I do if it gets to 1.5m, I have not seen tubs so big yet. Or is it best to keep it in a wooden cage then?

That is a nice looking cape cobra you have there. However I find it a bit worrying for someone to keep a snake in the top 10,maybe even top 5 most venomous snakes in the world, and you ask what should you do if the snake gets to 1.5m. Don't get me wrong,I can't doubt your capabilities in handling as I don't know you,but it just dosnt sound right.

If I understand it properly, he was asking in terms of caging requirements as he hasn't seen tubs big enough for a 1.5m snake.

Look at Big Jim 45L tubs, they are available at most good plastic stores. They're the biggest tubs I've personally seen for sale. I keep my 1.3m Eastern Diamondbacks in them (bare in mind, Cape Cobras are a lot more active than Eastern Diamondbacks). If your snake out grows that, then you should have a look at wooden enclosures.
