I have this dream to breed unusual puff adders. This year I got 10 babies which are really stunning and this one has a nice circle on its back. Not all are this bright. The parents are both definitely from Pretoria.

If you put aside all moral agendas for a moment it is interesting when you consider Puff adders in the pet trade.
For so many reasons they are very appealing animals to keep and have gained a fair amount of commercial value, on top of this they breed prolifically and have for many years been readily and cheaply available on the international market.
So when you consider all of this you have to ask why there are not different morphs of this animal being produced.....because you would bet money they are in the pipelines.
Perhaps it is only a handful of us who are in the dark here and they are being produced, but the pic of the albino BV posted earlier today is the first morph I have ever seen in a Puff adder where as with Night Adders there have been albinos popping up all over the place for a number of years.

Just for interest sake...Does anyone still have striped puffies ?

I was led to believe that Pure Venom still had a striped puff adder but that is a wild caught one. The one that Bill Branch photographed for his book escaped apparently and the ones from Transvaal Snake Park all died with fatty livers.

This one is not that different that I am going to get all excited about trying to breed more. It will not stop me from producing locality specific puff adders in future (especially from Rustenburg) in the hope of establishing morphs of this species.

BV, I'm just curious, through all your effort to breed something special from WC puffies, how many "unusual" babies have you held back?

And if there are any, could we please see some pics of them too?

Westley - zero animals. There have been some attractive ones but nothing you cannot go kick out from under a bush. I am amazed that a snake that has so many babies does not throw out some really strange ones more often.

Sorry to bring an old topic up but what does this snake look like now and have you produced more with the same or similar patterning? And is there any information on more morphs of puff adders besides the known ones,(t+ albino, striped scaleless) I know that recently a 'patternless' was found in kokstad but from what I hear it died(or was sold overseas) .
