Specie confusion

Specie confusion

Postby snake kid » Tue Nov 15, 2011 9:25 pm

Hi

Okay I know some people prefer not to house snakes together but I do so no need to harass me about it please.

So here is the the story I house my boomslang and puff adders together (the cage is 700 x 1800 x 1800) this saves up space as the puff adders usually stay at the bottom and the boomslang stays in the branches and occasionally comes down for a visit. Now tonight the 2 puff adders decided they wanted to go visit the boomslang up in the branches. I know this does happen sometimes but is still awsome to witness it myself. Here are the pic's to that go with the story.

Sorry about the bad photo's I suck with cameras.

Hmmm... I wonder why they climb branches, because they are fat, lazy and ground snakes?

That is an awesome sight! Shame that Boomie looks dwarfed by the Puffy! And kind of worried!

Mr Venom, Puff Adders are known to climb into bushes and small trees to bask. It is in the SA Reptile books, one of Johan Marais, I think. If I remember correctly, it says that they can be found several meters up in some instances... Definitely wouldn't want one of those to accidentally fall on me while out walking in the bush...

That is just awesome, I still think your puff adders are beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

I've been to a snakepark in Knysna. It was quite early one summer morning.Anyway.I went to see what I can spot in the pit.Not a single puffadder was visible on the gound. All in the treelog far off the ground to catch the first bit of dapled sunlight. It looks like some of them sleeps in there for the night aswell :)
The treelog is obviousely a better insolater of heat at nigth compared to the ground.

Close to Plettenberg bay there is a little snakepark that house different species in one enclosure. They had puffadders, night adders, molesnakes and green snakes all together. So it does happe.
Awesome snakes man.

Hehehehe the snake park that you mentioned is Lawnwood snake sanctuary. This is the place where I grew up and learnt most of what I know. As a kid I volunteer there spent my holidays living in a Wendy house behind the main house. Super awsome people and really passionate about their snakes.

Very nice, thanks for sharing!

Your snakes look nice and healthy too:)

Yeah keeping snakes together is not really a problem except feeding time or if the puffies have babies. Transvaal Snake Park also combined puffies with Black mambas and Gaboons with Green mambas and never had problems.

If you have a snake that has regurged or something like that then the problems start trying to trace the sick one.

@Bushviper.Very true on keeping snakes together about singeling out the sick one.
I had a colony of small geckofeeders together as a kid.I realized that tigersnakes like baby skaapstekers during feeding time :o
