Naja naja

Postby JeffG » Mon Oct 04, 2010 7:38 pm

Hi Guys,

In the time i've been away from the forum i've had to scale down and am slowly building up the collection again. Anyways long story short i've developed quite the interest in cobras. So i phoned Apex Predators to see if they had any Naja naja as they have quite the cobra collection down there. They didn't have any available but managed to source me a pair in perfect condition.

I arranged for them to stay at Apex seeing as they are so experienced with cobras. I have family down in the Eastern Cape and so have seen the cobras and collection myself WOW! I am more then happy with the snakes and couldn't believe how stunning they were. I didn't have a camera with me unfortunately but yesterday, two days after seeing the cobras i was sent this picture:

Copulation was observed and now Im holding thumbs, crossing fingers and toes and putting in some extra prayers for some nice pearly whites to see over Christmas. Might be seeing a little less of the family now :-D

Thanks Apex for Top quality animals, you haven't seen the last of me LOL. I highly Recommend them to anyone!

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Deleray,

They are just over two years old and probably 1.6 metres give or take.

They are suprisingly well behaved albeit a bit nervous.

Will keep you guys posted.

Thanks,
Jeff

Interesting, mine are about the same the same age but about 1.3m and I have seen no action yet. I was thinking they were too young but clearly not! Good luck.

Hi Silvrav,

The plan was actually to breed them next year but i think if the female is producing viable ova then it shouldn't be a problem as she would have then bred in the wild in any case.

Deleray if it is of any use to you this copulation took place at night after all the lights were turned off, Deon at Apex went to go check on something in the snake room and caught them in the act. You should post pictures of yours deleray, it would be cool to see them.

Thanks,
Jeff

Yes these Naja Naja are about 1.6m, of good girth, can't see why they shouldn't be breeding, but holding thumbs Jeff, to some nice baby Naja Naja....excellent pair you purchased and a pleasure for us to breed and house them for you.

1.6 meters at 2 years old. Wow they should get to 3 meters in no time then.
