Bitis rhinoceros

Postby Contortrix » Tue Apr 29, 2008 5:57 pm

Some pictures of my rhinoceros pair, i know the enclosure looks a bit booring but i'm hunting for some nice intertior.

One thing that have been bugging me is if you look at the male and the female, The markings on the male continue on the other side of the eye. I have seen this before but i have never really thougt about it until now. I've been looking at some pictures now and cant find many with this markings. Does anyone know how this is?

Best regards, Ronny.

I have a male which has a small teardrop under the eye as well. I will dig up some pics of him to show you.

Man I know this will sound dof, but what is the difference between this and a gaboon (besides the obvious horn on the nose). Reason why I ask is that I was at the Joburg Zoo on the weekend, and they had one of these labled as a Gaboon Viper and straight away noticing the horn got all confugulated??

East african gaboon's have 2 sub ocular stripes whereas the west african gaboon only has the one.. There are exceptions to the rule though.

I checked my bitis gabonica and rhinocerus. My female gabonica looks like she has the same marking as your male in front of her eye. I will try get pics of it.
