I got a little Bibrons thick toed gecko that hitched a ride in a families trailer all the way from the Orange river. Very cute little one. Sending him off soon.

Sending off as in setting free or selling? Looks like it could possibly be Pachydactylus turneri.

Sending off as in sending him back to the free state, a friend will be driving through there so hes just going to take it with him (they dont occur naturally here):) I thought that it is far more likely that it is a Bibrons rather than a Turners? But then again its all down to genetics.

not necessarily, I remember reading somewhere that the two can be distinguished by the structure, organization or count of some of the scales on the head if I am not mistaken. Also, just from what I've seen is that P. turneri tends to have a thinner tail and a less triangular and robust head with less prominent tubercles over all.

Remember that this guy is still very small 
only about four or five cm. I checked distributions and turneri dont occur that far south

When did this change happen ? Was Chondrodactylus an existing genus that bibronii was transferred to, or was it created for it ? Which other species were affected ? Or was the genus simply renamed ?
I remember reading that before, and thought that it was now back to Pachydactylus ?
I look forward to hearing more.

It was part of a major revision of the geckos in Pachydactylus (sensu lato) by Bauer and Lamb. It was published in 2005 and is very well accepted. It affected Pachydactylus, Chondrodactylus, Colopus, Elasmodactylus, Kaokogecko, Palamtogecko and I may well have forgotten something
However, I expect some more changes within Chondrodactylus, but from what I've heard data isn't consistent yet.
