my collection

If you wanted to keep geckos in Gauteng -BV: you say they are considered game - what does that mean in terms of getting/keeping them? What are the above board steps one would follow to keep them?

thanks :)

Get an import permit from natal for the geckos that you want. Easiest option and it is above board. If they dont have the geckos you want in Natal then donate the geckos to them first.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Those who are afraid to ask are ashamed of learning.

Hi mikhail,

Firstly as i'm sure you've noticed,P.punctatus are incredibly quick and after 2 years in captivity mine lost its tail from trying to escape and having me run around after it frantically so be aware of that!

Other than that I keep them on fine sand with a place to hide like rocks or bark. I provide a dish of t-rex bone aid calcium and a shallow waterbowl at all times.

As far as feeding goes they have crickets as their staple diet with termites which they relish whenever given the chance and small meal worms are also taken greedily.

They are very timid and easily spooked so work carefully and cautiously around them. I did have a female lay eggs once but incubaton was unsuccessful.

Hope that helps,
Regards Trayton

Hi ales you could try small mealworms as my geckos take those readily, just a word of caution they shouldn't be fed as the staple as they are hard to digest. They should be able to take crickets, how big are the geckos? post pics :)

Pythonodipsas what is the state of your gecko collection at present i realise this is super old topic.
Ales fruit flies will work well plus they are free! For the smaller geckos try stay away from mealworms as staple as scavenger said.
You can try small roaches but they can be super quick too.
Ales get us some pictures already :)
