Is this h. Mabouia?? The location is outside of Gaborone and these geckoes seem to be common. I need to know if this species is indigenous or a tropical house gecko, frenatus I think it is called. It may be on the menu for a young house snake.

It's quite difficult to tell from the picture, but it does look like Hemidactylus mabouia, and it most likely is. Location is not that extreme, remember these things spread like wild fire. A number of species are also expanding their ranges as I see it. Based on the distribution maps in Field Guide to Snakes and Other Reptiles of Southern Africa(Branch, 1998) I know of at least three species that have a substantially more significant southern distribution than indicated.

Thank you so much predator, I wouldn't want to submit my permit application and cite any other gecko as a food source , might result in a rejection.

Yeah, one of the Hemidactylus species. Difficult to tell which as they're quite similar.

But based purely on distribution I would say H. mabouia.

No problem fatman.

And right you are Westley, if it was not for the distribution I wouldn't even have attempted it.
