Common Barking Gecko - Ptenopus g.garrulus - West of Port Nolloth - Copyright of David Maguire
Barking Geckos live in sandy habitats. The males call from their burrows from late afternoon in a chorus(tich, tich, tich) which sounds like marbles hitting one another..
One of my all-time favourites even though I've never seen it, despite it being such a common species. Beautiful photographs too. Do they prefer coarse or fine grained sand ?
Ruan, they prefer sandy soils but I have found them on plains covered with alluvial gravel as pictured here. They burrow in the soft sandy soils though
