Southern Brown - Laid Eggs

Southern Brown - Laid Eggs

Postby Smeegle » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:34 pm

Hi Guys,

Some may remember that egg eater I bought on Gumtree in November last year. Well, this morning I was surprised to find 19 eggs in her cage:

Now taking into account the fact that she hasn't been around the neighbourhood much in a while, what are the chances that some of these eggs may hatch?

I'm also a bit concerned about the irregularity in size of the eggs, do they look normal?

Thanks!
One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today.

WOW!! Congrats man!!! Personally, they don't look that bad to me (colour wise)! But I suppose time will tell. Good luck and keep us posted.

Dasypeltis have been known to produce fertile eggs for 7 years after being with a male. The snake then died in a fire so we dont know how long it might have continued. Those look fine.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I'll let you know how it turns out....

She was quite restless this evening, so I figured she must be hungry. I placed a "Pick 'n Pay" chicken egg into her cage, and when I returned 30 mins later, I found this:

The entire process took about 2 hours to complete, amazing!

I know that this is normal for them and this is what they do, but it just stays awesome!!!! I have seen D. scabra taking chicken eggs. She is nice and big. Size?? From now on it can only be a pleasure to feed her.
