Desperately looking for small eggs

Hi guys

I'm desperately looking for small eggs in the Pretoria area

I just searched the net and could only find a guy in EL that sells minimum 50 quail eggs @ R300

I kept the 2 snakes alive for about a year now (feeding them dove eggs) but one of them remained much smaller than the other one - so I want to try feed him smaller eggs

Also (this might sound stupid) but I'm dead scared of touching them to feed them manually with a syringe

Please anybody that can help me out with some eggs I'll be forever grateful!

If they are eating the eggs then it does not make sense to give them smaller eggs. Just carry on with dove eggs. Quail eggs are on sale in certain specialist shops and I remember the house wives market at the vegetable market used to sell half a dozen at a time.

i'm trying to get the smaller snake to eat again, he's not taking the pigeon eggs

a colleague told me woolies might sell quail eggs - will try them...

while i'm still hinting for small eggs...

a friend at work helped me force feed the small snake this morning!

one of us held the snake while the other "operated" the syringe (i wonder if/how guys do this without assistance?!)

we gave him what seemed like the equivalent of 2 small eggs and he LOVED IT! he actually held he's head high up in the air after each injection to let the egg go down he's throat!!!

now i can chill knowing that he at least got something in

i'm also looking for a real bird's nest to perch up in he's "tree", perhaps that will also boost he's instincts to feed naturally

It shouldn't be hard to find some birds nest, have a look anywhere that weavers nest, after heavy winds you often find them on the ground..

eish after confirming with woolies then rushing to the store that kept the "last batch" for me...

See if you can find someone with some Zebra Finches. A pair of these little birds would give you more than enough eggs to keep two egg-eaters happy.
You would be able to keep them in failry small cage with a small nesting box and they would probably be happy enough to lay about 5 eggs per week.

Pity cos I have about 6 pairs in Maritzburg.

Sorry also meant to say that a couple of Chinese Painted Quail would aslo be great for slightly bigger eggs. My females also lay 5 to six eggs per week. I throw away dozens as my snakes can't eat all they produce.

Do the HUSBANDRY COURSE with Bushviper then you will learn how and believe me you will learn a lot

finally!!! i managed to track down some quail eggs @ thrupps in illovo!!!

they're a little expensive @ R52 / 18 eggs but hoping they'll last in my fridge for some weeks...

i put 2 eggs in the small snake's viv and no luck thus far - he's probably stil full from the manual feeding yesterday

Antony remember egg eaters don't feed like regular snakes and don't need to eat as often as you would think.
