I had bought BV a small (5megapixel) fujifilm finepix camera. It was the worst camera I had ever bought!!! It's indoors photo quality was very poor, it didn't have an image stabaliser, and after it lived out it's guarentee, it broke.

Rather look at a Canon, or Panasonic, or prolly any other make!!

Also, whatever you do, search for whatever camera you are looking for and read up in several places about it and any comments which go with it.

Its up to you what type of pics you would want to shoot. There is decent second hand SLR's available at very good prices. It's better to do it right from the beginning and to listen to those who have the experience. Lenses are expensive but rather save for the best.

Go and have a look at..........

Definitely go for DSLR - Nikon/Canon
Then you will become addicted and remain poor forever!!!

I had some Very bad news, the 80-400 VR lens that snapped off the camera when the bakkie...well you know what happened... anyway the lens apparently is unrepairable, I am gutted as the optics are fine, its just the 'end bit".

Ah well goodbye R16,000.

See what I mean about being poor!

Shame armata! As if things weren't bad enough withput the latest news abut the lens. Is there no possibility that you could get a good second hand lens at a good price?

If you don't want to go SLR, I have a panasonic Lumix, it is great, awesome pics, but obviously not the macro photography of a canon or nikin with their lenses (can do some), but decent zoom. R6k

BTW, this is a great snake and awesome pics!!

Well...I have some experience with slr cams, and they are addictive...My dad uses one for his photography on the trophies(He's a Professional Hunter & Outfitter), I am checking prices at the moment...and this baby got my attention:

Canon Digital Rebel XT 8MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 Lens (Black)
List Price: R 6,722.00
Selling Price: R 5,224.00

But damn, no butter on my bread for at least 3 months...
*sigh* :smt087

Is the camera worth the price?
