4 unit rack build

4 unit rack build

Postby Durban Keeper » Tue Nov 01, 2011 7:04 pm

A good friend & I have been hard at work for the past 2 weeks planning & executing the building of 4 snake racks. Here's some photo's of the project!

First we decided on the tubs.

Then we had a ton of wood cut to size.

Routing cable grooves was the most tedious part.

But the end result was well worth it!

Really hard work, but it paid off in the end.
The total build cost was just under R5000.

Just having another look and wondering, that black edging looks great, how did you do that?

DO you have enought snakes to put in there???
If I'm gonna be an old, lonely man, I'm gonna need a thing, you know, a hook, like that guy on the subway who eats his own face. So I figure I'll be Crazy Man with a Snake, y'know. Crazy Snake Man. And I'll get more snakes, call them my babies, kids won't walk past my place, they will run. "Run away from Crazy Snake Man, " they'll shout!”

That looks awsome mate well done, I also love building my own cages. Just a question did the 4 racks together cost R5000 If so what did you pay for the tubs because down here they cost about R100 each putting your 56 tubs at a total of R5600. but the rack looks awsome I should invest in one soon that is why I am asking about the prices.

@ Smeegle you buy a strip of the dark colored tape and iron it to the sides of your melanin and then cut off the flap that sticks over.

Only 2 units are mine, so technically, yes!

Smeegle the edging is the easy bit... iron on & trim! I've used the same in my kombuis. Put it on over 3 years ago & I am yet to have any peel off.

Snake kid, the tubs were R35 each. Bulk price because we initially took 60.

Thanks guys.

Nicely done! I see some Snakes4africa rack design there ;)

Just a though instead of routing the grooves for cables it's much easier and quicker if you get it done with a table saw just lower the blade and it's one quick cut.

What on earth are you putting in all those tubs now :)
