Basic rat rack

Basic rat rack

Postby dobby7 » Thu Feb 21, 2013 9:15 pm

Hi all.

I have been watching far too many youtube videos where these amazing rat racks have been displayed and discussed for me not to try make one myself. It was relatively easy to make but the lack of proper equipment made it difficult to do anything accurately. All i had was a cordless drill, a hacksaw, a measuring tape, my kombuis counter and some small odds and ends so please excuse the poor workmanship. I will make another much bigger rack when I go to my dads house again where we have all the neccessary tools for the job.

I used some clear plastic tubs 50cm x 35cm x 9cm and mostly used 20mm x 20mm pine pieces for the construction of this rack. Please excuse the bad quality photos as they were taken with my phone.

Here are some pics of the rack :

Well done, look quite good to me.

I think you did a great job, well done!

Well the tubs cost R37 each and 20mm x20mm pine pieces cost about R30 for 3m pieces (I used 3m per level). The upright 75mm x 20mm pieces cost R60 for 3m and I only used one of those so it cost about R350 including the screws and such so it wasnt expensive at all.

I am not a carpenter but that rack looks well done to me. I'm sure you can use the same design for rats just use bigger tubs.

Thats the aim Shaun. I want to make a few different models and see how they look. I will probably put one or two in the classifieds section.
