Rack Design Help

Postby gekosin » Mon Feb 25, 2013 8:13 am

Morning all

I am currently in design stage of a small 9 tub rack system or smaller depending on space... I bought 2 of the addis 26L tubs but due to their shape I am battling to measure the dimensions...

Could someone please assist if you have already got a rack using these? But I need the sizes to include the lid as I will keep the lids on.

Also where do I make the holes and how many?

Thanks.

Not to sure on dimensions, but as for holes, try keep them on the side, front and back of the tub, I use to put three on both sides and two on the front and back.

Good luck,
Scotty. :)

Look for Byron Zimmermans number on google and ask him. He builds them for a living so Im not sure if he will help you but he's a nice guy so there is a chance.

Hi gekosin,

I just finished a 5 tub rack using the 26 lt. Addis tubs.
I can not help you with the dimensions with the lid on, but without the lid, I draw myself plans and it came out perfectly.
Here are the plans with the dimensions, hope it helps, It is 2 sides and six pieces cut to size for the racks.

Just to add, I used white melamine that is 16 mm standard thickness.

I looked around and luckily I found a lid.
The height of the tub with the lid on is 195 mm.
So I wasn't really busy and made you some plans for a 9 tub rack with the dimensions for a tub with the lid on.
I made the plans 200 mm and not 195 mm so you have a few millimeters space on top of the tub in the rack.

Just one thing to remember is that the length increases when the tubs are clipped shut with their lids on...

Here are the measurements from the Addis catalog:

Width 415mm
Length 590mm
Height 195mm

I hope that helps.

Sorry Louis do you know where i can get a copy of the catalog? I looked on the addis website multiple times and have not even found the 26l tubs yet which is strange.

I just did a very very rough sketch of what I'm gonna make with the measurements supplied :) will need to just confirm how wide the rack can be and then onto the real design! I decided instead of going high I'm going length so will have 4 tubs next to each other and have 3 rows (12 tubs in total) will post some pics when I'm done for more advice and to ensure it will work.

Just be careful with anything wider than 80cm. It tends to sag in the middle. I was told this by Byron aswell and like I said before, he does this for a living so he knows what he is talking about. If you do still wish to make it four wide then put in upright pieces inbetween each tub to seperate them and add support.
If you cant beat them, join them. If you cant join them, shoot them.
