heating pads

Hi I have a wooden tank, should the heating pad be underneath the tank on the outside or on the inside underneath the substrate?

I prefer to test my heat pads to see where its the most suitable, some of my cages got heat pads under the substrate and some on the outside.

For a wooden cage i'd go with inside the cage.

I hate it when the snakes have direct contact with their heat source so I put the heat pad under a carpet/astro turf and put my other substrate(chips) on it. Even if they borrow into the chips the carpet still covers the heat pad.

Thanks will try in the tank under astro, been keeping the pad underneath the tank which rests on a solid wood table, this seems to cause the pad to get incredibly hot.

You can always make a removable floor for the cage that is a few cm above the heat pad and put the heat pad underneath it.

Just in case you don't know what I'm talking about.

It is always better to use a thermostat because if the wood or substrate catches alight then you will burn everything down. It has happened, believe me.

Thanks, where can I buy a thermostat and how do you connect it to a heating pad?

Read the instructions that come with the thermostat. Search for a device called a 'Compu Thermo'.
