Hi, I would like to know just for interest sake, what is the best way in your opinion on how to control the temperature in your vivarium?

I use a bedlamp dimmer switch, that can be found at good hardware stores, to control the temperature in my cages. It takes a bit of experimenting, but once set, it works very well.

Connect the dimmer swirch to your heating pad wiring, and start by upping the temperature in small imcrements..
A small electronic digital thermometer used together with the heating pad/dimmer switch will soon show what the temperature is in the cage.

OK, so I'm not very technicall minded (I'm a woman and don't have a clue ...) ... my dad has set up a computer like controller on my snake enclosures. It maintains a certain set temperature ... will push the temps up if too low and will "kick out" and lower when temperatures go too high.
Repetition builds confidence!

I use Habistat thermostats and ThermoControl thermostats. Both of these come with a remote thermometer that you can place anywhere in your tank. My heating pads are also attached to these thermostats and when the temp goes above or below a set temp it'll kick on/off the heating pads. Great for keeping a specified temp in your viv.

I use them to maintain my warm and cool sides of my vivs for my Ball pythons

My heating controller works like a dimmer but the cool thing is you can run more than one pad on it. I also use a Carel temperature controller from my old job, it's a hardcore controller. controllers to 0.1 deg C but they super $$$ i think.
