When I went to buy an AKWA heat pad at the pet shop near me I dug around to get a "properly shaped" one. Properly shaped as in it wasn't bent etc. When asking the owner of the shop, he told me that the stuff is couriered to them in an envelope. Having seen the way couriers treat stuff with "FRAGILE" stickers on, I'm not surprised some of the pads get mangled (and subsequently have broken wires etc.)

What i find great to use with heating cables and mats is to sandwich the wire or mat between 4mm thick asbestos sheets. To cut it to the shape i require, i soak it with the hose and run a bread knife along the measured areas until i cut through. The key is to keep the asbetos wet at all times as its the dust particals that are dangerous. The edges i then sand with a brick, also keeping it wet. It works like a carm, the sheets are fire proof and creates even heat temps with out hot spots.

Where do you get the asbestos sheeting from Neurotoxic?

I get it from builders warehouse, they dont cut it for you because of the hazard and asbestos cuting equipment is expensive. They sell it in sheets+- 2m by 1m and its cheap. R70 a sheet.

Asbestosis isn't cheap, so be careful with it. wear a decent face mask when you are working with the dust particles, and do it outside. pets and kids to stay clear. It's a really really #$%^ way to die, it takes a long time, and it's irreversible. keeping it wetted is a good idea, but still wear a mask.
