Vivarium substrates

Vivarium substrates

Postby gekosin » Wed Mar 05, 2014 9:49 am

Hi All,

I am currently on the hunt for Hydroton and bio-active substrate.

Moving our Geckos to their permanent home and will be using live plants.

If anyone can advice where to find the 2 above items in the JHB area it would be greatly appreciated :)

forgot I will also need to find the plastic mesh used to separate the substrate and hydroton or can i just use that plastic mesh that they sell to place under your floor mats to stop them from slipping?

Try any store that deals in hydroponics I use this place http://www.gthydro.co.za/ here is his E-mail Andy@gthydro.co.za, Really helpful guy.
Also Bio-active substrates are a combination of different substrates, there are a lot of recipes so just google around.

I seem to have accidentally made my substrate bio-active because of a meal worm infestation that keeps coming back, they eat the snake feaces and shed skin.
I don't recommend them though as they could harm the snake, Pill bugs and wood louse work well.

You know, you can touch a stick of dynamite, but if you touch a venomous snake it’ll turn around and bite you and kill you so fast it’s not even funny.
