Beware of store bought setups!

Beware of store bought setups!

Postby Groenslang » Wed Aug 10, 2011 4:00 pm

Hey all!

Just thought I'd post as an warning to others. I lost a pair of hatchling BHS due to the back (masonite) panel of the viv they where in coming loose. I know it is "only" Brown house snakes, but they where same locality that I hatched and kept with the intent to breed them and to release the young back into the area the folks came from. It was only put on with panel pins and no wood glue (unlike I thought).

So heed this as a warning and check your setups regularly for any loose panels and if it is fit with panel pins to fasten them with screws as well!

Regards

Arno

It is sad though that you pay good money for something and you still have to go home and 're-build' it.

Haha, it is the first and only one I ever bought and will buy! Never again will I settle for the overpriced cr@p that we have to settle with! Jup, I am glad it was not the albinos, but it still sucks that they are gone. The mom was that 1.3m monster that I found in Bergville, so they had to have had some big ass genes in them. The hatchlings when they hatched where big already. But that is life!

Will never buy wood enclosures from petshops. Do damn expensive, they charge R400 for a small cage that cost me R150 do build and 2 hours of work. Silly really.
