Thrasops jacksonii, about to mate...

Postby Contortrix » Fri Nov 07, 2008 7:24 pm

The male is all crazy for the female right now. He is like a sticker on her, following her every move and "humps" her like crazy. First the female tried to get away from him but she slowly settles down and i hope to see some mating soon. :)

Well, here's some pictures of the snakes and their enclosure.

I am not aware of anyone breeding this species on a regular basis. You cage seesm to be the trick they need to mate. Big and planted with live plants should make them happy enough to breed.

Keep an eye out for actual mating and take pics of the "hopefully" successful breeding of this species.

Now as i write the female has accepted the male, but the male is a little bit too excited and he shoots semen all over the enclosure and have had his hemipenises inside of her two times but in his excentric way he is pulling out of her again.....they have been going at it for several hours now. I hope the male settles down a bit and succeed in mating without pulling ut all the time. I suppose it is his first time and he has to learn how to control himself. Anyway, i hope he will sucessfully mate with her tonight. I have caught ome of it on video but hope to get the act it seöf on video and photos.

Maybe he is catholic?

Yes take a video of him. Just dont show him these low grade porn videos because that might be where he saw this behaviour!!!

They stayed together for a bit over one hour. Hope that is enough or that they mate some more...

Is there any information about how long they carry the eggs and how long the incubationperiod would be?

Any information at all would be helpfull.

Thank you, Ronny.

Please anony.....if anyone could write down details for Dispholidus typus i'd be happy. They are so similar in so many ways i figure incubation and bearing of the eggs would be pretty mutch the same.

Cheers, Ronny

...Ps. I'll try and comprimate the videos to smaller size and post them. Right now they are at 50megabytes and about 1,5 minute long. If anyone knows a good program to convert avi files to smaller size...pkease let me know.

Why does this females eyes always look milky. Is she due to shed? Almost every photograph that I have seen of this species has greyish eyes.

I am holding thumbs for you on this side.
