Great pics and a really stunning snake! Has the West African ones been seperated from ours, or are they still the same N.melanoleuca?

Wow. Such a proud looking snake! Looks like he's got loads of attitude..
These are definitely one of those snakes on my list of dream "must haves".

Superb snake. Proper black-and-white Naja melanoleuca compete with Sri Lankan Naja naja for the title of my all-time favourite snakes. Do you happen to know where that specimen is from?

At the moment, all forest cobras are still Naja melanoleuca, although that will change in the not-too-distant future, once all the data have been assembled and analysed.

Very very handsome cobra and nice pics Dendroaspis.

WW, is it just a rumour that the name 'subfulva' might be reinstated for the southern races?

Pythonodipsas - very likely, but there is still a lot of work to be done. Unfortunately, some things tend to filter out through rumours and private communications, and get absorbed long before the data is fully analysed... which has led to problems in the past.

Thats very nice. I hope you have a female to go with it. If they hurry up and re-classify it then we will not have problems importing these because they will no longer be indigenous and "contaminate the gene pool".

Especially if these changes are based on preliminary results and conclusions, later reversed by additional data, but in the meantime, the gossip makes it into the literature... Had that happen before...
