A rare find....again!

A rare find....again!

Postby Pythonodipsas » Sun Mar 26, 2006 7:57 pm

A Swiss friend recently came down to South Africa and was lucky enough to find the specimen below. I have personally done about a dozen trips over the last 15 years to the area where these are found and only turned up a single dead on road (DOR) one. Now this is the second specimen to be found (by others) in a year....some of you might remember the last one.

My Swiss friend did the honourable thing and released the snake after photographing it. The snake was found crossing the road in the early evening at an undisclosed locality in the Northern Cape.

Such rare Beauty! Pity no one (that I know of) is working with these!

Enjoy the pic!

That is awsome :smt119 ! You may want to edit the pic and add a copyright tag to it, coz I was talking to a herp photographer in SA last month and he said that there have been some recent problems with people taking pics of the web and using/claiming them as their own  .
That's an awsome photo, and a rare one at that, wouldn't want anyone claiming your great photography as their own (Just incase you were interested ;) ).

Thanks snake_freak. I took your advice and added a copyright tag. I have had people steal my pics before.

Just to clarify things, the pic wasn't taken by me but rather by my swiss buddy who has allowed me to post it.

For those who do not recognise the snake this is the Fisk's house snake.

I have seen a photo of a pair of them and this was taken an hour before they were killed and bottled.

Nice pic. Thanks for sharing. I hope the exact locality is going to be forwarded to SARCA.

Well done, that is a really awesome find and good on you guys for releasing it. Like BV said, post it to SARCA.

Thanks for all the replies.

BV and Froot thats a good idea - I will submit it to SARCA. I just gotta get accurate coordinates based on the nearest kilometer to the nearest farm - as there was no GPS recording.

Thanx for such a lovely record pythonodpsas and swiss buddy.

I have been gathering as much info on them as possible over that past weeks and one day ill be studying them.

There has been a few recordings of these been found in North America aswell, and only 12 +- have been found in South Africa.

Mongoose

Pythonodipsas would you mind if i saved the pic and put it to my collection?
