Another species under the belt. Crested Gecko.

Well I was busy working with my snakes and decided to check out the incubator. This is what I found.

This little chap was super lively. He was running and jumping already. He has some nice red but you can't go by the baby colours. I am sure he will be a little stunner like his mom and dad. The mother is a red and the dad is a white dalmation. Will have to wait and see. I also cut the other egg like I did with the Gargoyles so we should have another out lata.

I really think I must get more of these in. They are just so nice to work with.

Sure is. Thanks.

The price does depend on the colour, sex and size but I would say on average R800-1500 for a baby. If you have super nice colours then the prices can be heavy. I have seen cresteds overseas for $350ea. They are expensive but really worth it. They are hardy in my opinion and cheap to feed. They also can like to 15 years or so.

They are not that common as yet but do become available. I think they should grow in popularity.

Unfortunately I will not be selling these guys either as I want to get some groups together.

Thanks.i read that post about the gargoyles and it said that they only get bugs as a treat. Can cresteds eat only fruit and veggies and just get a few insects one day of the week?If so then that is awesome. My 3 beardies eat insects so much that i cant even afford enough for what they want.I really like reptiles that eat a 90% fruit and veggie diet.

Mine are eating mostly non citrus fruits and crested gecko diet. They don't take veg but you can give them beef/chicken baby food for some extra protein. Which I haven't done in a while but not a train smash. They don't really like it as much as the fruit baby foods and fresh blended fruit. You can feed them CGD diet without the need to feed crickets. I like to give them crickets as they love the hunt. The crested geckos are more keen on crickets than the gargoyles when adult. It easy to suppliment them with calcium by dusting the crickets. Crickets have been scarce for a while but it hasn't affected me much with keeping these geckos. I know what you mean when it costs a lot. I had a few groups of Giant Ground geckos and they were costing my a fortune.

Thanks Matty. Only because I haven't been posting on the RIP index. I have lost so much this year it's not even funny. All cases that were out of my control.

Caught in the act!

Once I was done with this pic the little guy was out and jumping around like a mad thing.

I housed him in a tub while I sorted out his new home and he wasn't happy with me.

I am amazed how reptiles that just hatch are ready to get on with life so quickly.

Congrats. Looks like you are being compensated for your losses this year. Know the little hatchlings can not replace the animals you lost, but it does make you feel better looking at the little critters. Congrats again.

Thanks everyone.

Rhacodactylus leachianus are on the top of my list of geckos to have.

It does make me feel better and as you say it can't replace them. Luckely I bred them before things went sour so I will have their kids to remind me too.

I was checking my egg boxes last night and my other female Crested has just started laying big healthy eggs. She is a stunning little orang/brown brindle.
