What hot do you recommend? [First hot]

Postby reinhard » Sat Apr 22, 2006 9:19 pm

Hi all,

I wish to buy myself a semi hot to start off with hots. What would you guys recommend? I was thinking of a white lippped tree viper, but was also thinking of something worth while to breed with ( that has a decent price). Or something indiginous that doesn't need special food like frogs and gechos. I want to start learning how to handle hots, cause I ultimately want a Gaboon and/or a forest cobra one day. I just want to go slowly for now, until I've learnt all the things like bite treatment etc. At the rate my boas are tagging me now, I don't think it'll be soon.

cape corals are fast moving little basterds so thats good practice - and they are not as bad as your fully fledged cobras .. they are such beautifull characters too , you must get some! they go for +- 700 bucks
mr T has too many every season you can easily get from him ....

If you want to start with "semi-hots" as you say, why not start with very aggressive non venemous snakes. If you don't get bitten by them, then maybe you will be ready for venemous snakes. You say that your boas tag you - that might still be a warning.

( I do not want to sound too negative, but getting hots is a more serious decision than you might think)

false water cobras are the best to start there feeding response is incredible and they sell for about 850 a baby BUT ur in luck i am letting one of my males go for R1500 he is 1.3 odd meters and very cool and docile (except 4 feeding time)

I have to agree with Dentech. Get a very agro non-venomous snake first, then look at a mildly venomous snake.

There is always a mamba. You either become VERY good very quickly or very dead just as quickly

you can start with a "hot" hot hatchling and as it matures so will your experience and confidence. Just a thought

I take chances with my boas, that's why they tag me (cause I can afford it) I don't even take chances with my skaapsteker or Red lip. I just want something a little more challenging. I think this false water cobra thing might also be a good idea.
