new Tokay and home

new Tokay and home

Postby Lickyoureyeballs » Tue Oct 06, 2009 1:25 pm

Just some pics of my new Tokay and his (I think its a he) new home. I got him at the expo over the weekend. He was the fatest one who tried bitting the most, although he is a bit dull he should look better as he settles, he has started shedding which should help.

He is very shy and doesnt like being disturbed so I have his tank is covered with a towel so he doesnt get disturbed.

this is when I got him home before going into his tank

you can see a bit of bad shed on his head and he has a regenerated tail.

some pics of his home. temp is a bit low @ 24deg only got heating cable in the rock background and in log, will maybe have to add heating bulb above the tank to warm it up more. The humidity is apparantly between 85-100%, but I dont know how accurate this reading is.

And lastly Mr T. This is as much as I get to see him for now, the only way I know he moves is because of the marks on the glass and a big present he left for me in the front corner of the tank.

Awesome, I still want to get another one in the near future... Was this one from outrageous pets?

Got him from the guys in the left corner as you walk next too the windows. He was the best looking one I could find, there were some seriously sick ones at some of the other displays.

I hope he does well and recovers from the stress, as I have read a lot of people have been heartbroken by Tokays in the past, it seems to be a problem of most of them being WC.

I think he meant that there were some SICK ones at the display, most of these are smuggled in and are wild caughts and have bad parasites and are extremely stressed out.

I think I was lucky with mine becuase I was picky if it doesnt try bite dont buy it that was my philosophy. He is turning into a eating machine, he is is slowly getting over his fear of me when he is fed. Smashes down 10-15 med crickets every second day, trying to fatten him up a bit.

That's awesome, if you find a healthy one then its a win... Now you need to find a healthy partner for him/her and get some healthy babies on the market.

In the future finding a mate would be awesome. But I would need to be dead sure I have a male and its not like I can just pick him up and check. Will have to wait till I get the oppertunity maybe when he is on the glass?

Hello. You will find that your Tokay will be active after the sun goes down as Tokay,s are nocturnal . I have 10 large Tokay's and they are most active at night . time . I Feed at night and watch them with the flashlight . They will welcome the light from the flashlight like artificial moon light . I house them in 2 100 gallon tanks and will post pictures soon .
