Kgalagadi Herp Sightings

Kgalagadi Herp Sightings

Postby Bundu Boy » Tue Nov 03, 2009 11:16 am

Hi All

I just returned from a 5 night stay in the Kgalagadi, and thought I'd post these few interesting pics

This is at one of the waterholes where a black backed jackal was sniffing up the back end of a cape cobra
Image

These two are of a sand snake, it had caught a ground agama

As you can see, the agama was a good deal bigger than the sand snake so I don't know if he managed to swallow it. The snake disappeared down a hole with his prey.

Also, I think it was a Namib Sand Snake, can anyone confirm?

That Cape Cobra is stunning.

I also wonder if the Sand snake got to swallow the agama.

Great sightings and pictures. Well done.

The Jackal and Cobra sighting was on a self-drive.....

The sand snake was actually at the entrance to our chalet at Kielie Krankie, an absolute superb spot in the park.

We stayed the the second chalet from the left hand side, they open up to a balcony looking out over the other side of the dune.

Our morning view.... he he...

Some other interesting sightings

If any of you have the chance to go to the Kgalagadi, then do it, and stay at Kielie Krankie, I think we paid about R700 a night.....

Yup, it was very nice, we also spotted a not so lucky Cape Cobra being whisked away by a Pale Chanting Goshawk. Managed to get a pic but it was quite far away

The last I saw of the Sand Snake was of it having swallowed just the head of the Agama, it then disappeared down a hole

Then we came across these two... get a room!

I took a whole load of different pics but to post them all up here would probably cause the server to explode....
