What date was it published? I have a book here "A field guide to Snakes of Southern Africa" - "Nature Lover's library"
1st edition - 1970
2nd 1974
reprinted 1978

yours, I think was printed in 1962 - Cape Town and London print
there is an older one printed in 1912.

Just some history on that, its worth about R 50 - R60 to a R 100 maybe?
I paid R 40 for mine and I have another 3 here all in the same time range, print wise.

but you never know. :D

LOL! not after what I heard here! R 2000 for a book?!

My other one is a Struik publishing - August 1986 "Slange"
"Poisonous South African Snakes and snakebites" - issued by the department of health in 1978.

these are my other 2 oldies.
I paid 40 for the fist one mentioned here and 45 for the second.

I don't think I'll sell them anyway, you won't get it again.

Well if you wanted to sell them you just shot yourself in the foot.
There is something that is much more scarce, something finer by far , something rarer than ability.
It is the Ability to recognise Ability

R2000-00??? you should have taken that fools money and run.
The recent reprints are unfortunately not rare and not worth anywhere near R2000-00 in monetary terms.
They are however a sentimental possession and as such people do place a value on them.
If you want a true value go book it out from the library and phone them a few days later saying you lost it, ask them how much is the replacement cost that you have to pay. (Nasty i know, but effective)
