Fight lost!

Last year I got myself a young pair of East african Gaboons and I was a very proud owner, that much I can tell you.
Jee, I was chuffed with these snakes, they where my pride and joy.

I spent a fortune on a setup and a load on medical treatments because they weren't healthy at all when I got them but I nurtured them back to health.. Although the money lost isn't the issue, for those who know me should know I would do absolutely anything for my gaboons. they weren't just pets, they're part of my family.

story short.
This morning I woke up and as part of my routine, I checked on my babies and there I found my female gabby. She had her one fang logged in her spine,
immediately I took her out and helped her get the fang out(she was still living) but two hours later she lost the fight!

God alone knows why she was taken but I guess that just this cancer we all call life.

Sorry to hear of your huge loss.

Its interesting how snakes seem to commit suicide (for want of a better term). I have had and heard of a number of cases where snakes were found either dead with fangs in the body, or seen biting themselves and then die.

Sorry for your loss, really does sound like she was well well loved! Are you going to maybe look at getting another female in the near future?

adrianx as I told you I had a B. rhinoceros do the same here a few weeks ago. A friend of mine had the same happen with one of his which was already two years old. I suspect that something triggers the strike and the fangs just penetrate the organs and that causes their death. The largest Gaboon viper on record did exactly the same thing and was found with the fang stuck in its back.
