Breeding ATB's

Marco what makes this even worse is that recently about 60 adult males were dropped into the local market with no females to pair them up with. This means about 40 or 50 people are all looking for that elusive single female of close to breedable size. At this stage ANY female would be worth taking.

A couple reasons for there only being males available are females are usually snagged up pretty quick when offered. Another is a theory I have about imports is males are collected more than females because males are the ones out and about looking for females during breeding season and makes them an easier target for collecting than females.

The other reason is that foreign markets are easier to dupe than the regular, large-scale buyers.

Is this only with Amazon tree boas or with other exotics aswell?

IMO it's not restricted to Amazons only. However the issue is that there are a select few that have the bulk of the market and the rest of us have to settle for what little is left.

True, but that seems like greed to me. Most of them are in it for a quick buck and they restrict the market which is not fair. Then again what can we do...

No this was the ignorance of the importer as well as the quality of the exporter. These things happen but if you are paying $18 each for the snakes then the supplier does not really care. Marking them up by so much is not fair to the people who are buying them.

By the way... they only start breeding at 2 to 3 years, so a 4 to 5 year old is far from retired. My oldest female is 12 and still breeding well. Males breed for longer. Just get your female big enough and a plan will be easily made.

What i did mean was im not really that keen on buying an adult as lame as it sound is prefer to get them rather young as "grow" them up.
