My Dumerils

My Dumerils

Postby rolandslf » Tue Aug 24, 2010 11:45 am

My Dumerils have grown somewhat.
An interesting fact is that they have both shed in the last week, but, they love to lay in their water bowl for about 3 days before shedding and forabout 3 days after shedding.
I hope they breed successfully this year.

Male on top and Female below, in the same water tub.

Not only that, but, he just cannot leave the female alone. He has been trying to breed from as early as February.

Hope you are going to be successful with that. They are very nice snakes.
How big an enclosure do you need for them?

I think I have gone overkill on cage size, so my dimensions are as follows - length 2,4m x height(1)800mm x height (2)1,6m x Width 800mm.
The cage has three enclosures, hence height (1) and (2).

The extra enclosure is - Length 1,2m x Height 800mm x Width 800mm, my Albino Black Rat Snake lives in this one.

Thats her. Did you notice the white patch on her head, that is all that remains of a wound on her head from about 3 months ago.
Bactroban is indeed wonderfull stuff.

How she got the wound to the head is a mystery. She has been in the cage for 9 months and suddenly had a hole in the top of her head.
The male has never had any type of wound and they live together in the same cage.

I cured it by swabbing the wound with an ear bud and warm water, and then applying the Bactroban, acting on Byrons' advice.

All seems good now though.

They are looking good bud. I wish you all the luck this season with them. You have been trying for a while with them and your luck is bound to change sooner or later.

Very nice boas you have there. Good luck with them and hopefully thy will make you proud. Have you found that they are more powerful and solid than BCI common boas? My Madagascans are on roids in comparison.

Bjorn - What you say is correct. To clean and dress the wound that was on the Females head it took both myself and my son-in-law
to control her. People who have met my son-in-law will tell you that he is not a small boy.

Haha, yip the are powerful. I necked my male as he had an eye cap. He constricted my arm so hard it hurt and my hand went blue. They are machines!
