Hornbill meal

Hornbill meal

Postby rosshawkins2812 » Sun Jan 30, 2011 9:15 am

Hi there

I've just started working in Madikwe Game Reserve and so far the snake encounters have not been too bad. Having a quiet time since these were taken so hopeful sightings will pick up soon :-)

This little guy was only around a meter or so and had no doubt decided to wait for a meal to land, so when a Southern Yellow-billed Hornbill landed he hit it. The meal was too big and he fell outta the tree for me to pick him up :-)

Great sighting!

I would have thought a meter long python will be able to kill a khornbill.

The Hornbill was very dead. When the dude started to unwrap himself from the bird he started to look for the head. The bird was way too big for him so he lost his grip on the branch n fell outta the tree

I hope he did not injure himself in the fall. He would have been able to eat the hornbill if he had been on the ground.

He fell into a sickle bush below the tree. The Hornbill was way too big for him. He wouldn't have gotten over the head with that beak in the way. The bird was about four times his size :-)
