Hi

I live at Langebaanweg on the West Coast and have been catching and releasing snakes here for about 15 years now. I have seen my fair share of Cape Cobras, Mole snakes, Boomslang and a few of the other lesser known species you find here. Yesterday I caught a small (40 cm) cobra that does not look (colour-wise) like any of the many similar sized Cape Cobras that I’ve caught here. I would like to make use of the considerable knowledge base here to identify this snake.

Thanks
Johann

If I judge the size of your floor tiles to be around 30cm-40cm wide then it seems the snake is a bit longer than 40cm.Looks more like around 1meter to me.Very nice snake with beautiful speckling.I found a simmilar one before (dead) on the road in the West Coast Park.

Thanks for the replies so far.

TonyK - The tiles are 22cm x 22cm. The snake is a little bit longer than 40cm(I don't know where the plus\minus hotkey is  ) I measured it on my arm. It is definitaly nowhere near a meter.

Cheers
