Spider ID please

Can someone please accurately ID this spider & tell me why it appears hairless? Found in Mpumalanga. TIA.

Looks like a lesser baboon spider. Just weird that it lost its hairs.

It still has hair on the legs. Has it perhaps not been wet with someting...it almost looks wet to me??

What is it locality?
Did you find it walking around or under rock or did you dig it up?

Your camera looks like it taks nice pictures so you dont need to ge t to close to it.
If you are brave enough go take picture on the lawn. the grass will slow it down if it decides to run away!

Try take pictures of its abdomen (bum) and of its carpice (head) and its whole body from the top. Close up pictures will help ID this spider!

I'm no spider expert, but I think certain tarantulas and Baboon Spiders loose their hair before a moult.

This might be the case with this specimen.

Harpactirella is a genus, so definately not the "species it from".

As my guess though, I would take a shot at Harpactira gigas (or hamiltoni).

And before some people moan about how I could possibly ID it from a pic, its just an educated guess, which is probably as good as its gonna get.

Baboon spiders don't lose their hair like lots of species of exotic tarantula do. Looks wet to me?

Asking on behalf of a friend and the spider is back outside where it belongs so no more pictures unfortunately. It came into the house, it wasn't moved.

I know nothing about local spiders. Tarantulas lose their abdomen hair before moulting, but this seems to have lost most of its hair? Unless it is hairless to begin with.

Wouldn't be hairless to begin with, so either just wet or else just lost hair through rubbing against its burrow, etc. Probably close to a moult anyway, so should be good as new soon enough.

re the size. It's apparently as big as an average-sized woman's palm of her hand or maybe bigger.
