Interesting Big Snake Cross

Postby rolandslf » Mon Jul 11, 2011 9:06 am

I very recently got my grubby little fingers on a pic or two of an Albino Red Tail mating with a Yellow Anaconda.
Red Tail Annies - something to look forward to.
The pics are not mine, but I need to keep the Hybrid Enthusiasts updated on what is happening around the world.

Whew, that is something a bit different.
Would love to see what the resultant offspring will look like. Do you know if this has been succesful in the past or if it's been done before?

I can't see anything coming of this. But if it does work it will be very interesting.
Thanks Roland, please keep us updated.

Graeme - I also thought it to be a green, but the owner posted it as a yellow.
This is the first time this has happened that I am aware of.
I am also of the opinion that nothing will come of this, but let us wait and see.

I also thought it might be a Green Annie.

I have to disagree and say it actually might work. Considering they are both boas, both South American and the male is the smaller RTB.

Here is a diagram from, "Inferring the phylogenetic position of Boa constrictor among the Boinae" by Frank T. Burbrink showing how closely they genera and species are related.

This would certainly make for some strange looking babies!

Oh my word Westley. Looking at the tree so to speak, this is not out of the bounds of being possible.
If you do not mind I would like to post this genetic tree on the other Forum where this pic originated.
I am now so excited.

Haha, go ahead man.

As long as you reference the author and paper it was taken from.

Yeah well that owner is rather clueless. That is a green anaconda. It is very risky because anacondas are known for feeding on other snakes. Just mating does not mean too much. I have seen horned adders mating with puff adders and they were both male! Live babies from these crosses are far more difficult to produce.

Found this on another forum, I don't know who the owner of the snake or picture is, but this is supposedly the result of a Rainbow Boa and Yellow Anaconda.

People, I need to apologise. The post above this particular one on the Forum I was looking at reads Yellow Anaconda.
I got my wires crossed, this specific post only say's Red Tail x Anaconda. The type of Anaconda is not mentioned.

Oh Arno - stop spoiling the Hybrid enthusiasts fun moment here. (Just Joking)
