My Copperhead babies.

My Copperhead babies.

Postby Van2 » Mon Feb 13, 2012 3:03 pm

Had a pleasant surprise last week when working in my snake room. Knew the female was gravid but expected the babies a little later. This is the first time she was bred and she only had these three babies.

I tried feeding them newborn pinks this past weekend, but they refused to eat. I tried teas-feeding them as well. A friend of mine suggested putting crickets in with them and leaving them to eat at their own pace.

Is this a good idea? They seem to be very healthy, so am I a bit to hasty to get them to eat pinks? :smt017

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Hannes

I wouldn't worry to much about then not eating yet if they were born last week. I would only worry after a month or coming on two. Have they shed yet? I have had vipers shed once they are born but I haven't bred these. They should start eating after a shed so don't worry to much just yet.

Congratulations.I like the light one in the front the best. They are designed to take little frogs in the wild with that lure for a tail, but I have raised many babies from birth.I usaully let them starve in a dark, warm, humid tub for 2 weeks undesturbed. Most of them will take a pink without hassles ,but fussy feeders likes a brained pinky.Good luck.

Just an update on my babies:

One of them started eating on it's own after I scented a pink with a gecko, but the other two still refused to eat. Started force-feeding them
last Thursday. Not what I wanted to do, but had no other choice. Will see tomorrow if they will start eating on their own.

Thanks a lot Bjorn and vuduman for all your suggestions and help.
