That's sad and disapointing. I wonder what caused it. Does anyone know what the reason would be?

Usually it means the male is not producing top class sperm or he got to her too early or too late in the season and either his sperm had deteriorated or only a few could swim to the eggs to fertilize them.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Greetings All, "HOPE" is 10 days old today, and still alive, as well as being very feisty.
An encouraging fact is that he/she (not sexed yet) has gone into the blue.

Here is a pic. , taken last night.

Awesome B! That is a really nice looking little munchkin! Happy for you that he's doing so well! Next, the feeding!

Thanks B, he is actually quite a chubby fellow.
The two most important milestones here are (1) Good Shed, and , (2) First time unassisted feed.
If these two are successfull, I reckon it will make it through to adult hood.

On Friday Night I fed the Critter its' first feed, a 3 day old Rat Pup.
It took the meal without hesitation and after eating it, no discernible bulge was apparent.
The next feed will be a 5 day old Rat Pup.

I reckon after 5 years of attempting to breed Dumerills', I have finally succeeded with a live one.

A feeding pic, first pic with prey item and second pic after finishing eating. Sorry about the quality but I did not want to interupt too much so took the shots in the dark, more or less pointed in the general direction and pressed the button.

Hi Roland

How is the little survivor doing now? And how are the adults? Have you managed to pair with a breeder male?

The same pair have hooked up again, so only time will tell on how successfull this time arouns is.
The survivor is doing very well and easts a Rat Pup every 10 days or so, I have not sexed it yest, but it is a very fussy eater and will only feed in pitch black darkness.

It's a strange way that Mother Nature works. The survivor being some hard work. Glad to hear he's doing well!

Good Morning All. An update on HOPE is that he actively hunts and eats his prey items on his own now.

A miracle occurred, I reported to various persons in the Reptile game, that my Female Dumeril did not become Gravid in the 2012/2013 season.
I even saw hookups in December, January and March. So one could reasonably accurately predict Non Gravidity.

Well, on Friday I decided, being half day off from work. To give the Dumeril Cage a thorough clean up, which included all shelves, nooks, and crannies.
This also entailed a sort of alcove built into the cage, it is circular in design and although the snakes move perfectly in and out of it, the Human Arm is not designed to do so. I then decided to attack this alcove which, to be honest, I have not thoroughly cleaned since the week between Christmas and New Year.

The first thing I found was a dead baby Dumeril, I scratched around in the alcove clearing out slugs. While doing this, something moved, but I could not get in there properly. I got my one daughter who has smaller arms and hands than me to scratch around, and lo and behold, she brings out a live baby Dumeril.
Final count was 9 slugs, 1 dead baby, 1 live baby.

The eggs and dead baby were pretty dried out, and the live baby had started to shed at the nose, but was too dry to carry on. This indicates birth having taken place anywhere between 10 and 20 days ago.

I soaked the little one, which seemed a bit weak for about 45 minutes, and then assist shed it, getting bitten 3 times in the process. I then knew that it would be okay.
2 hours later I put in a 3 day old Rat Pup which it ate immediately unassisted.
