Catching a Cape Cobra with a rodent trap

Catching a Cape Cobra with a rodent trap

Postby Jacquesvw » Thu Feb 16, 2012 1:34 pm

Hi guys,

Yesterday afternoon I came across a Cape Cobra near my house, but before I could catch it went down a hole. So I decided to setup a trap... I placed a live mouse in a rodent trap and positioned it so that the cage entrance is blocking the hole exit.

6 Hours later I went back to check and found this little surprise. The mouse was also eaten.

Here is a pic I took before releasing it far from home.

Well done! now that's thinking out the box.
You know, you can touch a stick of dynamite, but if you touch a venomous snake it’ll turn around and bite you and kill you so fast it’s not even funny.

Now that mouse was a take way meal in more ways than one. Nice thinking there.

That is interesting because I caught a rather big puff adder in a similar cadge as well.
But mine was not planned, I actually wanted to catch field mice for my Brown house snakes!
I love God and the wonderful nature that HE created!

I also caught a Rinkhals by mistake the first time when I setup the trap to catch a couple of rats that escaped from their enclosures.
It's strange because I didn't expect a Rinkhals to go for rats, but with the drought we're having I guess there aren't many frogs around.
