Morelia boeleni.

Postby LAMB Pythons » Sun Sep 11, 2011 9:20 am

Hi guys. After seeing these for the first time a few months ago, I finally held one yesterday and they are now my all time favourite. Are there any around in SA? Me and my other half are planning to add one to our collection.

You are very fortunate to be able to see one of these amazing snakes in person, I am very jelous.
I do not think there are any in SA, I would love to add one to my collection. What do they go for over there?

I was amazed how gentle & inquisitive they were, no sign of any aggression or nervousness! I am truly in love! :)

Mitton they go for £2000. I thought they would be more expensive than that. But still contemplating, as we know they are hard to keep. Decisions decisions decisions.

Hell ye, if I ever decide to buy one I'll import him with the rest of my collection BUT saying that I first need to find out how the CITES would work with these species.
They are truly stunning snakes, like Tanya said no aggression at all a very confident Python.
The ones we held were roughly 10 moths old. I'll take pics the next time I'm popping in there.

The permits for them are the same as the permits for Ball pythons. Its all the same CITES II.

Finding a pair is the problem. Males are far more plentiful and much cheaper.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Those who are afraid to ask are ashamed of learning.

Thanks BV, I don't know why but I thought they were CITES I, just show you what I know lol.
Yes females haven't been for sale yet over here and I bet if you could get your hands on a female, the price won't be that low.

Friends of mine import them from Indonsesia.
The problem is that they catch there the pregnant females and hatch the eggs in captiviti.
The first two years the snakes grow perfect and than the problems coming.
Not many people have them more than 2 or 3 years and than they die.
Why?? that is the question.
the price in europe are about a little 3.000 euro for nice juv. Boeleni.
There is no problem for exporting them to SA, Cites 2.

That’s really interesting Heloderma. Perhaps it’s just a combination of stress and husbandry issues. I remember reading that they have pretty specific requirements so if the animal is to do well these need to be met. Still at that price I would make sure I get my ducks in a row!
