Some reptiles seen

Hi all

Thought I would post some pictures of some of the reptiles I saw while I was working in Madikwe

Rock Monitor seen on a game drive about 10meters up the tree

Water Monitor always in the same place on the river crossing

Flap Necked Chameleon

Puff Adder decided to cross the road and sit under my car for about 20minutes

Couple Eggeaters found in the lodge

Boomslang found above the guests toilets in the thatch that I had to remove, that everyone thought was a Mamba

Black Mamba in the staff quarters, caught and was showing the staff the fangs and black mouth.

And then this is off the reptile pictures but took a walk about a week after the rains and found these guys, not sure what type of tadpole but thought it was cool.

Hope you enjoyed.

Great pics! Love the Rock monitor against the blue sky.

Incredible images. What camera do you use?

Do you mind if I send the tadpole image of to my uncle? He worked with Dr. Louis du Preez so I might be able to get some info on them.

Thanks everyone :)

Stefan I use a canon 450D, and use between 100-400mm lense like I did for the Monitors, Puffy and Boomslang, but stand at a distance. Or I use the normal 18- 55mm lense for the rest of the pictures. And you welcome to use the pic.

Alright, I will post the info as soon as I get it. Tadpoles however are a difficult field of study in which the mouthparts are compared under a microscope. But with the unique markings on their side there is a chance.

So here's hoping

I don't think those are markings on their sides, it is rather their stomach's that's see through and their intestines showing.

Hi all,

Just got the email from Dr. Louis du Preez and the tadpoles has been identified as Bullfrog tadpoles (Pyxicephalus adspersus).

You were right Mitton those were not markings but their intestines.

According to Dr. du Preez Bull frog tadpoles are easily recognizable based on three factors all evident in the photograph taken by Mania.

1. Schooling in shallow water. The Red Toad tadpole also does this but in deeper water.
2. Spirals of the intestines clearly showing. (Well done Mitton)
3. Tadpoles breaking surface to suck in air (hap na lug was Dr. du Preez se beskrywing). This is a unique behavior only associated with Bull Frogs.

Thank you to Dr. du Preez and Prof. van Aardt for all their help.

Regards
